Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q: If I attend does that mean I have to play in the game?
A: You do not have to participate in the game if you attend. Feel free to show up for some or all of the events listed on the agenda. We are offering a more casual and less competitive first half of football for those not looking to get dirty. Your family members are invited and encouraged to take part as well. If football is not your thing you can show up and cheer on or heckle those playing in the game. The more the merrier.
2. Q: Why is the chapter doing this?
A: Over the years we have held different events where alumni have been invited. Despite the previous participation we would like to get more alumni from different eras involved. This event will provide a casual and fun atmosphere for alumni and their families and active brothers to get to meet.
3. Q: I always go to BGSU homecoming. Isn’t that a better time to come visit?
A: Although homecoming is always a great BGSU tradition and we welcome out alumni to attend, we feel that Sigma Nu was a special part of everyone’s collegiate experience and should be treated as such. This event is for Sigma Nu, by Sigma Nu. Our alumni are very important to the current chapter and we want to make sure that your Sigma Nu experience continues.
4. Q: Is this a ploy to make money for the chapter? Will I be expected to show up and donate a large amount of money?
A: Absolutely not! This is our way to thank you for the time and contributions you have made by being a Sigma Nu. Brotherhood does not end at graduation, and this is our way of showing that. The costs of events are covered by the chapter out of our alumni relations budget. We just want you to show up and enjoy, that’s all!
5. Q: It has been such a long time since I have visited. What if I don’t know anyone?
A: What a great opportunity to meet and get to know active brothers and alumni from other eras! This is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with your chapter under a casual setting.
6. Q: Who do I talk to if I want to see a future event happen or if I want to reconnect with the current chapter but can’t make it?
A: Our Alumni Relations Chairman, Frank Mancuso. He can be reached by e-mail at fmancus@bgsu.edu or by phone at (248)807-8194. He is here to serve you and make sure the current chapter is doing all they can to make sure your Sigma Nu experience continues after college!
7. Q: Where else can I find current information on the chapter?
A: Our chapter website. www.bgsigmanu.com

Below please find our an outline of our alumni relations program. Direct all comments and suggestions to Frank. We are here to make sure your Sigma Nu experience continues well beyond your college years:

Alumni Relations Program—Epsilon Chi Chapter, Sigma Nu Fraternity

I. Purpose
To establish and continue contact and networking with our chapter’s alumni. Our alumni have offered their support to us as former active members and now in a supporting role and shall be involved in our current chapter’s affairs. Sigma Nu is a life long vocation and commitment and we recognize and appreciate that fact.

II. Involvement/Updates
The Commander of the Chapter will hold frequent communication with our three alumni advisors as well as our faculty advisor to keep them up to date with all chapter affairs. By doing so advisement will occur on a variety of chapter business that is important to both the growth and development of the chapter but also to inform the alumni of what steps we are taking to continuously improve the chapter. The alumni advisor will forward information on to the rest of the alumni by use of e-mail if he so sees fit.

III. Events
At least twice per semester the alumni will be invited for a formal chapter meeting. This will allow them to voice any concerns or advice to the entire active chapter.

All alumni will further be invited to all ritual ceremonies involving candidate of active initiation. The Chaplain will be in charge of this aspect.

Once per year The Chapter will hold a Sigma Nu homecoming separate from Bowling Green State University’s Homecoming. This will allow all alumni from the chapter to return to the chapter as a reunion to reconnect with brothers, active and alumni. A written plan/itinerary will be approved at a chapter meeting one month prior to the event.

When the annual event occurs special recognition will be given to all alumni performing above and beyond the call of duty per nomination and vote at previous meetings.
